What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing technique where very fine needles are inserted into the body at specific points along or near energy meridiens in order to adjust and balance one’s Qi (pronounced Chi). This is accomplished with needle depth manipulation. Acupuncture will treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being. It is effective for physical, psychological and emotional problems. The proven effectiveness in treatment by acupuncture has been embraced throughout the world.

How Acupuncture Works?

For several thousand years, the foundation of acupuncture has been that human beings are complex bio-electric systems, a conclusion only recently reached within the general scientific community.

Acupuncture believes energy circulates throughout the body along well-defined meridiens. Along these meridiens, acupuncture points are energetically connected to specific organs, body structure, and systems. If the energy circulation is disrupted in one of these areas, optimum function of the organ is affected and this results in pain, fatigue, emotional loss control or illness. Acupuncture points are stimulated by needles or acupressure to balance the circulation of energy which in turn influences the health of the entire being.

Benefits from Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is a comprehensive system of preventive health care and health maintenance.  Since acupuncture promotes the body’s natural healing ability, many conditions can be corrected or improved by its use. The effectiveness of acupuncture is well documented and extends far beyond the conception that it is only useful for chronic pain management. Many athletes have discovered that acupuncture treatment helps them to achieve optimum performance levels. Recently, acupuncture detoxification treatments have been recognized as a valid form of therapy for chemical dependency problems. Throughout its long history, acupuncture has established a solid reputation as a health care treatment that works.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes, It is a safe treatment.

We have used pre-sterilized and disposable needles for 30 years. Acupuncture
 needles are
very fine, about the size of a thick hair and solid. Nothing is injected
through them. There are no negative side effects.

Does it hurt?

Prior to the first treatment, many people do not believe that acupuncture can be painless. The skilled acupuncturist can insert very fine needles with a special technique, so the patient does not feel pain.

Different sensations such as heaviness, tingling or electric sensation may be felt.
People often comment that the feeling is unfamiliar but pleasant and relaxing.

In some cases it is not necessary to use needles at all. For example, when
treating young children or sensitive adults, there are other techniques which have been found to be equally as effective. If you do not like acupuncture treatment, we may offer you Non-Needle Treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?

Since each person is unique, the number of treatments required will vary. Treatments will depend on the severity and nature of the patient’s complaint.  For instance, you may need only one or two treatments for an acute condition. On average, a series of five to fifteen treatments have been found to resolve many chronic problems, although some degenerative conditions may require more treatment.
